I’ve had today’s date bookmarked on my calendar for ages, and it’s because I am that excited to share Carly and Chris’s gorgeous navy and blush wedding with you! As a wedding industry professional and an Every Last Detail team member, I’ve worked with countless professionals and culled through photos by wonderful photographers while searching for the most meaningful details to share. I definitely have favorite photographers, and Katelyn James is one such pro.

Carly and Chris’s greatest desire was to fill their wedding day with joy both for themselves and also for their guests. They wanted to work with wedding vendors who were passionate about their work and excited to celebrate alongside them. Just from meeting her once myself, I can assure you that Katelyn James met their expectations! The pair also wanted their wedding to be simple, so they let their gorgeous venue, Big Spring Farm, in Lexington, VA shine the brightest. The flowers by Backyard Blooms fit the couple’s aesthetic perfectly, and there are so many sweet rustic details from which to draw inspiration for your own wedding day. Katelyn, thank you so much for sharing today’s wedding with us! P.S: Carly, you have the very best name. :)

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

There are so many people who helped make our wedding possible. Chris and I have great friends and family who were so willing to jump in wherever help was needed. Honestly, it was my sister, Laura, who helped me the most throughout the planning process. She was always available when I needed to process through a wedding decision no matter how big or small. She cared about every detail with me. On our wedding day, I had a friend (Mary) coordinate our wedding weekend. She was a HUGE help! She made sure that all of the details I had been working on throughout our engagement came together. She was there to take care of everything so I didn’t have to worry about a thing and we could just enjoy our wedding day.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

When Chris and I were deciding on our vendors, we really wanted a personal experience. We wanted to work with people who were flexible, easy to work with and passionate about what they do. Every single one of our vendors went above and beyond for us and made us feel like our wedding was the most important one they would ever be a part of. I felt like they were just as excited about our wedding day as we were and it was better than I could have ever imagined. Our vendors were really the best!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

Chris and I got married at Big Spring Farm in Lexington, VA. The farm is beautiful and really didn’t need a lot of extra stuff which is a huge reason why we chose it. It made adding details so easy! I also really wanted our details to reflect who Chris and I are as people. We are both pretty easy going, simple and fun. We wanted our wedding to reflect who we are as people and as a couple. We wanted our guests to feel welcomed and relaxed.  The farm has that feel without adding much to it.  Backyard Blooms did a great job adding simple touches for us all around!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

This question is so hard! Our wedding was exactly what we wanted it to be! Everything just felt so relaxed and we were really able to enjoy every part of our wedding. If I had to choose a favorite thing though it would probably be our first look. Chris and I chose to see each other and spend some time together before our ceremony. I loved that we were able to celebrate the fact that we were about to get married and it definitely calmed any nerves that we had. It was a really sweet time for the two of us.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

My advice would be to make a list of the most important things you want for your wedding then focus your attention on those. It is easy to get caught up with little details that will make you crazy and you won’t really notice them when the day comes. For us, we really cared about our ceremony, the dancing, food and getting great pictures. Prioritizing really helped me remember what was important about our wedding and keep stress levels down.  The little things are going to fall into place.  I would also say remember to spend time with each other without talking about wedding details. Engagement is such a sweet time for the two of you and its so easy to miss it if you are only focused on planning.

Oh I love Carly’s advice about prioritizing- that is SO important!
