How To Infuse Your Personality into Your Wedding Menu
By Heather Jones of Wente Vineyards
The wedding menu has undergone a real evolution in the last decade, with the demand of customization and personalization at an all-time high among couples. The days of the beef, chicken or fish formula has been replaced with an “anything goes” attitude that allows newlyweds to create a menu that suits them perfectly.
So how can you infuse your own personality into you wedding menu? See some of our favorite ways below:
Let the Bar be your Canvas
The cocktail hour is a great place to have some fun with your guests and showcase who you are as a couple. Add in a couple of signature cocktail options with personalized names that will have your guests smiling. If you aren’t serving liquor, choose wines and beer that have a personal meaning. Does your dad only drink one specific kind of beer? Serve that as a nod to him. Is your partner’s family from somewhere like Spain or Canada? Serve traditional beverages from those areas that they’ll be familiar with- trust us, it will be a huge hit.
Incorporate Your Favorites
Nostalgia and comfort food are big trends right now, which is perfect for those looking to personalize their menus. Talk to your caterer about what favorite dishes you’d like to incorporate, and they can help create a cohesive and custom menu that fits your style exactly. We’ve seen everything from childhood favorites like mac n cheese to favorite desserts like cheesecake or pie.
Hometown Roots
Not everyone gets married in their hometown, so why not bring a little bit of your heritage with you? For example, if you’re a southerner, add in a few signature dishes like fried chicken, grits, or collard greens. For those that hail from the Northeast, lobster rolls and clam chowder are always a good choice, and international dishes that celebrate your culture will have you and your guests feeling at home.
Highlight Your Relationship
You and your partner likely share lots of favorite activities together, from traveling to exploring new restaurants to wine tasting, or hosting friends and family together. Use those experiences and shared interests as part of your wedding day menu. This is the perfect place to get creative and think outside of the box! Whether it’s having your favorite restaurant cater the event or serving dishes from all of the places you’ve traveled to together- the sky is the limit.
No matter what you decide, make sure that you and your partner remain true to who you are, and you’re sure to have the wedding you always wanted!
