With old-town charm and whimsical details, this peach and pink Savannah destination wedding from Shannon Christopher Photography and Morgan Gallo Events is full of darling little details you’re sure to love! Savannah is a gorgeous Southern city that’s full of romance and intrigue. Today’s couple traveled there on their first vacation together, later got engaged in one of its gorgeous squares, and decided to marry at the spot of their engagement!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Alysse, our wonderful planner from Morgan Gallo Events, helped us the most with the planning process and on our wedding day. Living in Cleveland and having a destination wedding in Savannah, it was important for us to find someone who knew the “ins and outs” of Savannah and could help us find great vendors that fit within our budget. Alysse put us in touch with so many amazing vendors that helped make our wedding special (our very talented photographer Shannon Christopher, Jeremy Davis & The Fabulous Equinox Orchestra, Julie from Garden on the Square, The Olde Pink House and Back in the Day Bakery, just to name a few).

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

We wanted a planner who was easy to work with and who had a background in design with an aesthetic that would reflect our personal style. We also wanted someone who could take care of all the details leading up to and including the wedding day, so we were able to enjoy the weekend with our guests. Jason had enlisted Alysse to help with the proposal, so we knew she was the right person for the job.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

We knew we wanted the details of our wedding to be non-traditional and whimsical. We asked Cleveland designer Brian Jasinski of Grey Cardigan to create our Save the Date. Alysse used the Save the Date as inspiration for the design and feel of the wedding, incorporating the colors of the Save the Date into the wedding and suggesting non-traditional touches (such as the fruit and floral centerpieces and fruit as place cards). We were so pleased with the Save the Dates, we asked Brian to design the rest of the paper products, including the table numbers, fruit place card tags, patterned paper for the centerpieces and pinwheels, the fan-shaped programs and a custom designed wedding invitation, which included a rendition of a classic cruiser, a special gift that Jason had given me.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

I have two favorite things:

First, we chose a destination for our wedding that was very special to us — Savannah was the place where Jason and I went on our first trip together and it was also the place where Jason proposed to me a few years later. And because we chose Savannah for our destination wedding, most of our guests decided to make a long weekend trip out of it, which was wonderful because it felt like we were on vacation with all of our family and close friends, sharing with them “our” special city. In addition to the ceremony and reception, we planned several activities throughout the weekend (a trolley tour, lunch at Mrs. Wilkes’ Dining Room, a welcome dinner for all guests at Soho South Café and a Sunday morning brunch catered by Thrive) so we could spend time with everyone and they could experience the beautiful city. We also rented several houses, including 2 beautiful huge mansions so our wedding party could be together. The bridal party spent most evenings on the patio of the 109 West House relaxing –  it was so much fun!

The other thing that we loved about our wedding was that our ceremony took place in the band shell at Forsyth Park (the very place Jason had proposed to me just over a year before). That was very special for us. Moreover, because both the ceremony and the cocktail hour took place outdoors, we were able to incorporate into our wedding day much of the natural beauty that made us fall in love with the city of Savannah in the first place.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Try to spend as much time with your guests as you can the weekend of your wedding. It is the one time you will have all of your closest family and friends in one place, so enjoy yourself and make the most of it!

As for planning (and budgeting) advice, focus on (1) good food, (2) good music, and (3) being creative with the remaining details. Those are the three things which our guests have remembered and complimented us on the most.

I love Juliet’s advice! Creativity in wedding planning is definitely appreciated by your guests. While planning a seated dinner, the escort card is a must! Why not turn what could be a hum-drum detail into something charming for your guests? I love Juliet and Jason’s fruit escort cards; a whimsical detail their guests are sure to remember. Are you planning something fun for your escort or place cards? I’d love to hear!

XOXO,
Carlee
