This eclectic, casual barnyard wedding from Stacey Hedman is full of sweet little handmade details. From the floral arrangements to the little piggy cupcakes (Love!), it’s obvious that Tatiana and Graham put a lot of thought and effort into planning their wedding. With fields of wildflowers and cows – and chickens – oh, my!- this farm fresh wedding full of downhome details is a perfect way to celebrate Fall.

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

This may not be a response you hear too often from a bride, but believe it or not, my husband, Graham, played a huge part in the entire wedding planning process.  We both felt very strongly that it should be a shared experience and wanted to come together to bring the vision of our perfect wedding day to fruition.  He’s also a very creative person so his insight into certain details (he designed our invites and programs!) was integral to bringing it all together. On the big day itself we never would have been able to pull it off without the help of our parents and a few key “wedding hands” (Thanks everyone!)

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

We wanted to collaborate with people who were easy-going, professional, understood our wedding “vision” but most of all respected our thoughts and opinions (no cheesy wedding songs please!).  It was also important to us that they were able to advise us and provide helpful tips and tricks.  After all, this was the first time we were doing this ourselves!  Some of what we felt were our “best moments”, such as the dessert potluck that we served our guests ourselves (in lieu of a formal receiving line),  were suggestions made by a vendor that were interesting or had worked well in the past.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

We both wanted things that were very “us”- simple yet tasteful,  quirky yet comfortable,  natural and organic.  Hosting a wedding at a local farm in Maine, it was important to us both that we incorporate local elements in as sustainable fashion as possible, therefore everything from the beer to the favors were made in Maine.  The flowers and food served was from Broadturn Farm itself or from other nearby farms.  I also wanted to ensure that we incorporated bits from my roots (Colombian) into the ceremony and in the music.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Everything!  Honestly there were very few things that I look back on and think “I would have wanted to do that differently”. It was just how we wanted it to be. Yes, there were maybe a few scheduling things I would have changed but no deal breakers.  I thought it was really touching, after the event, when our caterers came up to us and said it was really refreshing and that they appreciated such a great group of friendly guests with such a mixed background.  A testament to our awesome friends and families!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

It’s probably easier said than done, but try not to stress out over every last detail.  At the end of the day this is your time to relax, have fun and enjoy your time with your sig-o and all your loved ones.  Missing a string of lights in a spot, shouldn’t ruin it ;-) Also, at one point in the evening grab your partner’s hand, take a step back and observe everything going on around you so you can soak up all the awesome energy of the day.

As a stylist and designer, accessories are my obsession! I love that Tatiana decided to dress outside of “the box” and don a funky cardigan for her big day. I’d love to hear how you are planning to accessorize for your own wedding!

XOXO,
Carlee
