I have good news, y’all. First of all, it’s FRIDAY! And second, I have another great wedding to share with you today. {Cue the cheering.} This wedding by Mindy Hiatt Photography will definitely put you in a good mood. {Oh, you were already in a good mood? Well, then, this wedding will put you in an even better one!} First of all, the bouquets are FULL of color–purple, yellow, bright blue–and they are stunning. Then there’s the pink and white paper lanterns, that CAKE, and the really sweet bride and groom who met and fell in love in college. Oh, and there’s an interview with the bride, Kim, who has some really great words of wisdom to share with you all. Let’s get started, shall we?!
What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?
My most helpful advice came from my recently married friends who had just gone through all the work of planning their own weddings! They had the best website recommendations for everything from blogs where I could get ideas to where to order my invitations!
What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?
When we were deciding who to work with, it was really important to us that the overall look and feel of our wedding was going to be exactly what we wanted while still sticking to our budget. When we sat down with our vendors to discuss details, we knew we were working with creative, personable professionals who wanted to help us create the wedding we were envisioning. Many times I felt like I had an idea in my mind and the vendors helped me to express it and bring it into existence. They were all so great at listening to what we hoped things would look like and then showing us how they could do it!
Did any of your vendors do anything special for you before, on, or after your wedding day that you would like to share?
Our photographer Mindy Hiatt was really excellent. We did our engagement pictures with her ahead of time which was a great way to get to know her and get used to posing with each other. She also sent us CDs of our pictures in beautiful cases with a personal thank you note. We had a lot of fun with her, and having her and her assistant around on our wedding day was really special.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding?
Where to begin! I think my favorite thing was that the day was indescribably special, and that it was just how we wanted it. All the details came together, all our friends and family where there, and we got to enjoy each other in a beautiful celebration. At the end of the day, there was not a single thing that I would have changed! We had taken lots of time to add in some special details and personal touches, and it made for a wonderful wedding!
What is your best piece of advice for other brides?
There’s no set way your wedding is “supposed to” be or “supposed to” look. It’s easy to get carried away when looking at pictures of other weddings and think that that’s how it has to look, but it’s not true. A wedding is something so personal, and it should look how you want, regardless of what other weddings look like around you. The unique things about your wedding that you personally add will make the day meaningful and beautiful, and will keep you from feeling like you should have done things differently.
Well said, Kim. Well said. Thanks to Mindy Hiatt Photography for sending over this sweet, colorful wedding and to the beautiful bride for sharing her perspective on the day.
What do you think, lovelies? Did you find that it was easy to get carried away with an idea of how your wedding was “supposed to” be? What personal touches did you add that made your wedding day meaningful and different? Brides-to-be, what are you doing to keep from falling into that “supposed to” trap? I’d love to hear.
