Nicole and Shawn’s classic Sarasota wedding on the lawn at The Powel Crosley had a beautiful air of romance that welcomed family and friends to celebrate. However, they were also welcomed with a heavy downpour, but not to worry, they did not allow a little (ok, A LOT) rain to put a damper on their wedding day!
It’s wedding days like these that truly put a vendor team to the test, and with the calm disposition of the bride and groom, their wedding day came together in the best possible way. Their photographer, Cat Pennenga Photography, shared that with every thunder clap the guests would cheer and clink glasses for the adorable couple to kiss, and when it came time for the first dance, Nicole and Shawn took to the dance floor and danced in the pouring rain. Seriously guys, can we talk about the most perfect thunderstorm romantic comedy moments?!?
What an incredible day, and with the guidance of Swanky Soiree Events and their entire team of vendors, this sweet couple didn’t allow rain to get in their way. Oh, and as you scroll through the joy of their wedding day, be sure to catch some of the special moments that Nicole shared!
Tell us a little a bit about your wedding.
Once we decided the Powel Crosley Estate was going to be our wedding venue, I had an idea of what I wanted in terms of style and color choice. For colors I wanted light pink, white, with a touch of gold accents and I wanted a romantic feel that emphasized the historic Estate and all its beauty. The rest I left to the professionals to create my dream wedding!!
What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?
The most important part of our wedding was that we had everyone we loved together and we all had a fun time. We did decide to splurge on hiring a photographer, videographer, and a photo booth. We really wanted every aspect of the wedding well documented because once the day is over, that’s all we would have to look at and remember it by!
What were your favorite parts of the day? (memories and stories)
THE RAIN!!! The week coming up to the wedding my family kept checking the weather for the day and it was not looking good. I chose to not look at the weather and take everything as it came on the day of. I was not going to let worrying about something we had no control over ruin our day! Once the day came, the rain held off for the ceremony and outside pictures. However, a huge rain storm was roaring during dinner outside under the tent and then magically, it stopped. We decided this would be the perfect time for our first dance (which was outside and not covered by the tent). We headed down the stairs and could slowly feel the rain getting heavier. By the time we hit the dance floor and ‘My Girl’ by The Temptations started playing, it was absolutely pouring!! The whole dance was in the pouring rain with all our guests and loved ones standing under the awning shouting and singing along. This is a moment we will never forget!
What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?
My amazing wedding planner Christina and all the vendors!! Since we were planning our wedding remotely, I relied heavily on Christina for her design input, previous vendor experiences, and recommendations. I had an idea of the vision I wanted for the wedding but Christina really brought everything to fruition!
Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?
Don’t worry about all the things that could go wrong. Remember you’re there to marry the one you love and celebrate with all your friends and family. Everyone is there to celebrate the two of you so take time to appreciate that!
What an incredible day, and what incredible spirits of these two. They took what many may find to be a negative on their wedding day, embraced it, and created magical moments that they will cherish forever. Now that’s a way to start a marriage!
