What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Larissa and her team with Wedding’s Costa Rica was fabulous.  She guided me through the entire process. We’d Skype with her and tell her what we were thinking, what we were envisioning and through out the entire time she gave us advice, ideas and helped us plan out the entire weekend to every single last detail. She would email me information sheets, updated budgets and new ideas, always keeping me in the loop.  It’s hard to trust someone to do so much work for you on such a big day but I would highly recommend her to anyone.  She listened to Sammy and I and understood what we liked and did a great job bringing our wedding day t0 life.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

I wanted vendors and a wedding planner that understood the look I was going for and my taste.  Right off the bat we liked Larissa. She was responsive and timely and I knew she had a feel for what we wanted.  She was great at communicating and I think that is very important for having a wedding in another country.

For our photographers, I went through their on-line galleries and found which style I liked best.  A Brit and a Blonde were phenomenal.  They know how to catch the perfect moment and they are very fun to work with. I am in love with my pictures and so is everyone else.  I also did the same for the videographer.  Right when I saw Jonathan Yonker’s work I knew I wanted him to video our wedding.

We go to Costa Rica every May.  On our fourth trip together (and last trip to Costa Rica before our wedding) we planned our wedding while visiting the country.  The food was very important to Sammy and I. We love to cook.  So we went to a couple of different restaurants and tried out our different options for food.  Sholomy with Seasons is a wonderful chef.  We arrived at his restaurant and he asked us what kind of food we like and were thinking to serve at the wedding. He then showed us an example of another event he had catered to give us some ideas as to what he can do.  Then he went back into the kitchen and starting cooking the food himself.  Once we began eating the selections, we were sold.  He cooks with such delicacy and he really brings out the natural flavors in the food.  His food is fresh fusion cuisine.  All of our guest raved about the food.

The other vendors that we worked with were all recommended to us by Larissa.  Another reason why working with her was great. She knew the best and I was very pleased with the way things turned out.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

My husband and I love going to Costa Rica.  He has been going for years but I had never been until I met him.  We started a tradition to go to Costa Rica every year in May.   So our main inspirations was our love for the country and how much fun we have when we go there.  We wanted all of our family and friends to see the beauty and experience Costa Rica like we have.  So with that said we wanted to bring out all of the natural colors, greens and blues, and the native flowers.  We wanted the ocean to be the background with lots of palm trees.  Then I threw in a coral color so I could use the flowers from Costa Rica.  I also wanted our wedding to have a shabby chic feel and our inspirations came a lot from within us and what we like to do.   I loved the lights streamed across the dinner area and the lounge area so our guest could take a break from the dance floor or sit down have a cigar from the cigar roller.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Getting married to the love of my life!  And that so many of our friends and family made it down to Costa Rica to see us get married and celebrate. It meant a lot to Sammy and I.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

To not really stress about something if it’s not going to work out.  If something doesn’t go the way as planned, it’s really no big deal because the only people who are going to know are you, your husband, wedding planner and mother.  Just relax and take it all in.  The day is about you and your soon to be husband so there is no reason to stress about the little things.  It’s going to be the best day of your life but also the fastest.  My sister told me the night of my rehearsal dinner to try to spend as much time with Sammy as I could during the wedding. I am glad I listened to her because the night flew by but we had the best night of our lives.  We got married, ate dinner and drank and dance the night away with all of our best friends and family.

I love how Lindsay took a fun tradition that is special to them and really made that the base for their wedding. How fun to look out and know that every piece of your day has special meaning! What are you doing to make your wedding day unique to your relationship? Will it be in the decor, your ceremony, maybe even your cake? I can’t wait to find out!

Cheers!

Samm
