From the bride…

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

I downloaded an app on my phone similar to The Knott and it gave me a list for what I should be working on that month and helped me budget. That was super helpful because sometimes I would forget a small detail or two. Our families were the most helpful to us in the planning process, we had lots of DIY projects and they were willing to help us with all of them.

Our family friends are wedding planners/coordinators Mary Ann Gregg who offered to coordinate our ceremony was amazing and the day of went off without a hitch. Katie Camp who is a wedding planner also a family friend I gave all our decorations in a trailer with labels and she went to town setting up every last detail perfectly. Having a family on both sides that was willing and able to help was such a blessing and wouldn’t have been possible without them.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

The most important things to us when we were deciding who to work with we’re probably price and flexibility, we wanted to do so much and on a budget and have all the beautiful little details. Cottonwood Golf Club had exactly that. It was close to home and they allowed us to be creative in our planning and loved our creative side. That was our biggest deciding factor we wanted to be able to do all the creative decorating. Georgia LeBon at cottonwood instantly loved all my ideas and was excited about my vision so it was clear to me this was the perfect place for our wedding. She totally customized our package to fit us and our needs.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

The inspiration for our wedding design was “us” Rod and I are very creative artistic people. So as much of the wedding if not all of it we could make our own we did! I used Pinterest like a crazy woman. For example: Rod always hated at weddings that dancing was the only activity so we made our wedding how we would want to spend an evening celebrating! We had a bags game, cootie catchers at each table to help our guest visit each activity and gave them other things to do then just dancing. I’m a thrift store shopper so a lot of decorations we got second hand or borrowed from friends, looked through our parents garage, or we just made it ourselves.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

My favorite thing about our wedding….it was totally us! I’m not sure if that makes sense but we love our family and our friends Seeing everyone come together to celebrate the union of Rod and myself was amazing. We didn’t just do something because tradition told us we had to. We took each piece of the wedding and made it something that was special to us. Something that we were going to cherish forever and look back on and be happy we took the time to do it ourselves!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

My best advice for other brides; someone told me in the beginning of my planning that at the end of the day your going to be married to your best friend and that’s what is most important not to get hung up on the napkins being perfect but in each decision I made I always kept that in the forefront of my mind, that at the end of all this planning and sometimes craziness I’m going to be married and that helped me focus on what I wanted everyone else to focus on, was our love for each other. Every love story is beautiful, but ours is my favorite because God is the author and he is the creator of love!

From the bride, Blerta:

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My mom helped the most on our wedding day. We had our reception in Windsor and it was very difficult to find a decorator who was willing to work with our budget and could see our vision. In the end, we found a wonderful vendor for the linens, and my mom did all the decorations- from flowers to centerpieces to candles. Our reception venue looked incredible and had a warm romantic feel.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

For us the most important factor in deciding who to work with was their willingness and eagerness to work with us. In the begining of our search we were surprised to see how many vendors had limiting factors and packages. We wanted someone who could be flexible with our schedule and wishes. Also, it was very important to us to click with each vendor and genuinely feel comfortable with their attitude and personality.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

Our inspiration came from combining some of our favorite colors and flowers with a few unexpected touches, like the lampshade centerpieces which were inspired from the many wedding blogs I had looked at during the planning process.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Take a vacation together (we called it our engagement-moon) to just enjoy each other and relax before the planning gets too crazy. And remember that it is only one day and when that day comes remember to enjoy and have fun at every moment.

Oh wow, I love Blerta’s advice to take an “engagement-moon” while you’re planning! That’s such a good idea, because it really is so easy to get swept up in the craziness of wedding planning!

Have any of you thought about going on a little getaway (aka “engagement-moon”) while you’re planning? Would you do it?

Vendor of the Week: Divine Light Photography

I’m so excited to introduce you all to my friends of Divine Light Photography! These New York wedding photographers are a husband and wife team, and they capture beautiful weddings all over the world! And not only is their work absolutely gorgeous, but the two of them are pretty darn fun too! :)

Why do you see yourself as being Modern, Vintage, Classic, or Eclectic?

We like to tell our couples that we come from a art background, (both Brian and Briana have degrees in Fine Art), so we try to infuse our training into our work. While we appreciate the vintage styles, and use them at times in our work, we also want our couples images to have a timeless elegance. We want to create images for you that are uniquely beautiful, but will not be outdated in a few years after a few trends have come and gone. We do use some film cameras, which tie us to our roots as classically trained photographers, back in the darkroom, we also like to make sure that our clients have one of a kind works of art. We like to infuse creativity of composition and style, which can transcend generations, and still be relevant and beautiful, rather than passing trends, which can be outdated in a year or twos time.

What is your favorite wedding detail you’ve ever seen or created?

Wow this is a hard one. We see so many creative and amazing brides, its so hard to choose! If I had to, I would probably say the details that have the most impact on me personally are the gifts that the bride and groom give each other on the wedding day & their families. I recently did a wedding, where the Bride & Groom presented each member of their family with an engraved handkerchiefs. It was such a special time seeing them present each member of their family with them, everyone was truly moved that they had taken the time to embroider them all, I know they will treasure them for generations.

What is your favorite store or brand?

We would have to say that our favorite store is Anthropologie & J.Crew. We love their fashion, and we also decorate our home with many of their home accents. The mix of artists and designers that they have curated, which always keep us inspired visually. We love all aspects of their aesthetics from their incredible designs to their amazing store displays, to even their website. Such an inspiring company.

What is your favorite thing about weddings?

The biggest thing to us, is connection. We go to great lengths to make sure that we connect with the people we are working with. Additionally, the most important thing we focus on capturing on the wedding day is not just a pretty portrait, we will take some lovely portraits, however, what we are focused on is capturing the connection between the people there. The bride and groom, the mother and her daughter, the father and his son, all of these connections are so important, and the moments that are had on this special day are not ones that can be duplicated, and we take that responsibility very seriously.

Vendor of the Week: Divine Light Photography

What qualities do you possess that enable you to work well with brides and grooms?

With all honesty, we love weddings. Yes yes, this may sound a little easy, but its honestly true. We love our job, and while we take our responsibilities very seriously, we also love to have fun with our couples. We take great lengths to get to know our couples, so that we can feed off their energy. We prefer to blend in rather than overwhelm.

What steps do you take to ensure that your clients will have amazing wedding days when working with you?

We have been shooting weddings together for over 6 years now, and we have learned a few things along the way. One of the things we have done is to create a very detailed questionnaire that takes the bride and groom through the wedding day, and helps us get to know them and what is important to them. Additionally we try to have an in person meeting (or Skype if its not possible) to talk over their questions and make sure they feel prepared and comfortable.

Classic Champagne and White Florida Wedding

Happy Friday everyone! I am quite excited to share this wedding from Jacquelyn Marie and Linda Marie Weddings & Events with you today! It’s simple and classic- and with florals by Events In Bloom, everything is absolutely gorgeous!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My husband and I don’t have family that live close to us so I knew right away with our hectic schedules I needed to find a wedding planner. Linda at Linda Marie Weddings & Events did a fabulous job from planning to executing the day of the wedding!!  She helped keep me on schedule and the closer to the BIG day, she really came through, executing flawlessly! My husband helped with the major decisions and last minute detail of the programs.  He wasn’t too excited about the fan programs and putting them together (although he did it with a smile) but they came in extremely handy with the warm weather!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

When we started the process of planning the wedding we wanted someone who was willing to listen to what we wanted and could implement our vision. We also wanted people who were detailed oriented, professional and experienced to make the entire process run smoothly. Milan catering made our lives so easy….from fabulous food to having everything for the table settings. We wanted our photographer to capture every moment and Jacquelyn did just that!!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

Classic and elegant….nothing to over the top.  With the beauty of the Crosley Mansion itself I wanted to keep the decor simple but elegant.
I found many ideas on pinterest: i.e. picture of his mother on my bouquet, lighting and ideas for centerpieces.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

During the engagement and all the planning don’t forget to take time for each other and continue “date nights”. The wedding is about you and your husband. Make it personal and special to the two of you.  Enjoy every moment of the day!!!

I love her piece of advice to other brides! Planning can get a little overwhelming at times and lets face it ladies- our men are there for us the whole time. So don’t forget to take time out for the two of you not only leading up to the wedding day, but on the wedding day too! A great way to have a moment for just you two is to have a first look.

Have any of you thought about incorporating a private moment for the two of you on your wedding day?

Cheers!
Samm
