From stunning white centerpieces, to custom favor bags filled with grits, inspiration is at every turn in this South Carolina wedding. The lovely bride Abbey is here with us today to share her wedding insight:
What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?
Overall, my mom and I did the majority of the planning. Just like any typical mother/only-child-daughter, we both had our ideas of how my wedding would be and the two of us thoroughly enjoyed the 10 months of planning together. However, Meagan Warren, Certified Wedding and Event Planner, assisted me in the organization of our reception at 701 Whaley and helped with coordinating the “flow” of our wedding day itself.
What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?
In my opinion, when I set my mind to do anything in life, I give it 110%, make sure every detailed is covered at least twice and the tiniest detail is equally as important as the largest detail. With that being said, my dress, venues, caterer, band, florist, etc. were just as important to me as picking out the perfect material used to print the “S” on our cocktail napkins for the reception.
What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?
I’m a traditionalist to a degree but love to be my own person and put my unique touch on anything I do. I’ve been to a countless number of weddings in my life, so at the age of 27 and planning a wedding, I had a pretty good idea of exactly what I wanted regarding our ceremony and reception. Our wedding was a complete reflection of who I am and who Andrew and I are as a couple: classy, traditional, personal, fun, yet with a uniqueness that made it “one of a kind”.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding?
Honestly, it would have to be the feeling of complete and total happiness that I felt throughout our entire wedding day. Everything was so surreal and I kept saying to myself, “Abbey, stop and look around. Remember what this moment feels like because it’s a once in a lifetime emotion.” I honestly expected for something crazy to go wrong from Friday morning to Sunday afternoon but the weekend was absolutely perfect – I’ve never experienced anything like that in my life. I’m overjoyed and feel incredibly blessed to be able to look back on my wedding weekend, September 20-22, 2013, and say that it actually was perfect, to me.
What is your best piece of advice for other brides?
When you’re walking down the aisle, take a few seconds to look around because there will never be another moment time when everyone who loves you is surrounding you all at once.
Abbey’s advice is so perfect. And I love the favors, don’t you?!
What are you planning on doing for your favors? Will it be something that reminds you of your roots, like the grits that Abbey did?
