What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Overall, my mom and I did the majority of the planning.  Just like any typical mother/only-child-daughter, we both had our ideas of how my wedding would be and the two of us thoroughly enjoyed the 10 months of planning together. However, Meagan Warren, Certified Wedding and Event Planner, assisted me in the organization of our reception at 701 Whaley and helped with coordinating the “flow” of our wedding day itself.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

In my opinion, when I set my mind to do anything in life, I give it 110%, make sure every detailed is covered at least twice and the tiniest detail is equally as important as the largest detail. With that being said, my dress, venues, caterer, band, florist, etc. were just as important to me as picking out the perfect material used to print the “S” on our cocktail napkins for the reception.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

I’m a traditionalist to a degree but love to be my own person and put my unique touch on anything I do. I’ve been to a countless number of weddings in my life, so at the age of 27 and planning a wedding, I had a pretty good idea of exactly what I wanted regarding our ceremony and reception. Our wedding was a complete reflection of who I am and who Andrew and I are as a couple: classy, traditional, personal, fun, yet with a uniqueness that made it “one of a kind”.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Honestly, it would have to be the feeling of complete and total happiness that I felt throughout our entire wedding day. Everything was so surreal and I kept saying to myself, “Abbey, stop and look around. Remember what this moment feels like because it’s a once in a lifetime emotion.” I honestly expected for something crazy to go wrong from Friday morning to Sunday afternoon but the weekend was absolutely perfect – I’ve never experienced anything like that in my life. I’m overjoyed and feel incredibly blessed to be able to look back on my wedding weekend, September 20-22, 2013, and say that it actually was perfect, to me.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

When you’re walking down the aisle, take a few seconds to look around because there will never be another moment time when everyone who loves you is surrounding you all at once.

Abbey’s advice is so perfect. And I love the favors, don’t you?!

What are you planning on doing for your favors? Will it be something that reminds you of your roots, like the grits that Abbey did?

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

This special day did not happen without a lot of help from those around me and I am forever grateful. My best friend, Chelsea Oliver who is a designer, was probably one of the most helpful in my planning process. She designed the entire wedding with me and helped organize most of the vendors. My husband was also incredibly helpful. Since I only had a day-of coordinator, I did most of the planning on my own. When I would spin out of control or get frustrated, my husband was there to put things back in perspective for me and help me focus on what was really important.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

My husband and I wanted to have a good dance party. That’s what we cared about the most…so everything was chosen to facilitate our guests having the most fun.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

My mother is Japanese American and my father and in-laws are all Jewish. Being mixed-race is really important to me and I wanted to incorporate my mixed heritage into the wedding. Since we decided to have a Jewish wedding ceremony and ketubah, I decided to add in some of the Japanese traditions in the design and details. My mother folded one thousand paper cranes (a Japanese tradition) that we hung in strands from a birch branch. This became the focal point of the wedding design.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

The dancing! My husband and I danced the entire night. We had an amazing DJ and everyone was out on the dance floor the entire evening. We both danced so hard that we couldn’t even walk by the end of the night.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Don’t sweat the small stuff. In the end, no one will notice what color the napkins are. They’ll only remember if you (the bride) looked happy and had fun. If you have fun, your guests will too. And you should focus on celebrating with your husband–stay together throughout the night.

I loved how she mixed her Japanese and Jewish backgrounds to create a style that was 100% unique!

So where are you pulling your inspiration for your wedding design from? I can’t wait to hear all about it!

Samm

You are going to love this navy and mint Florida farm wedding from Jennifer Martin Photography! Taking place at the lovely Lange Farm, the sweet bride Carolyn chose to go with a simple style infused with some Anthropologie-inspired details. This feté is proof that you can pull off a beautiful event without tons of extravagance- because sometimes it’s the simple details that make the biggest impression, right?

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My mom helped me with everything & went to every appointment with me – She was the negotiator & the sensible one in the planning process, while I was focused on design, details, & aesthetics. We made a great event planning pair. On the day of, the venue’s coordinator (Lesa) made sure everything ran smoothly & that all details were in their place – I think a day of coordinator is mandatory.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

I wanted the whole process to be as stress free, comfortable & enjoyable as possible, so I chose to work with people who I knew would live up to that expectation.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

My husband & I are people who love the beauty of nature, animals, & ease. We wanted a fun, relaxed environment for our special day – Something out of the ordinary from our every day life (hence, the farm), but that exemplified the simplicity & comfort we love.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Besides my husband, our wedding venue was my favorite thing. It was so natural & peaceful with hints of eclectic elegance (from ribbons & crystals hanging in the tree to an assortment of delicious cakes for our guests to enjoy). It was raw, simple, stunning.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

ENJOY every moment from day one because it flies by! If it’s too stressful it isn’t worth it, so don’t weigh yourself down with details that don’t matter.

How amazing is the navy and mint color palette? I love it more and more each time I see it!

How about you- what do you think of navy and mint together?
