We can never turn down a groom in uniform, especially when he is part of a beautifully elegant yellow and lavender wedding like todays! Cara and Rick eloped prior to Rick’s deployment, and they were able to celebrate their marriage in Georgia with their friends and family upon his safe return home. With today being Veterans’ Day, we thought sharing this lovely couple’s wedding story captured by Laura Barnes Photo would be the perfect way for us to also pay tribute to all veterans and their spouses!
What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?
My mother did almost all of the planning for my wedding. I still lived in South Carolina during the wedding planning process and the wedding was in Atlanta, Georgia. Working full time and planning a wedding in a different town would have been quite a challenge. But, I have my mother to thank for helping me plan and giving me a place to start. She knows what I like, so I was thankful that she could help and was more than willing to help in planning the wedding. Otherwise, I would have had no idea where to begin when planning a wedding.
What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?
My husband is in the Army and was deployed while the wedding planning process was going on. It was important to us that vendors understood that the Army may have extended his deployment and we needed the vendors to be open to rescheduling the date that had been set. Thankfully, he did not have to extend, but we knew that the vendors would have understood otherwise.
What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?
I wanted the wedding to be of classic style, but yet casual enough so guests would feel comfortable.
What was your favorite thing about your wedding?
Being able to share the celebration of marriage with family and friends. The whole wedding day was great! The flowers by Faith Flowers in Virginia Highlands Atlanta did a fabulous job with the flowers—just what I wanted and more. DJ Rock Entertainment had the guests dancing the entire time. And we are able to cherish all the great memories with the beautiful photographs taken by Laura Barnes Photography.
What is your best piece of advice for other brides?
Do not stress too much over the little details, just make sure the food is good! Your guests will remember if they had a fun time and if they had a good meal. You are getting married and should enjoy the process of planning a wedding. If the planning process is mostly stress-free, the wedding will be fun, and then you can start your new married life on a happy, stress-free note!
Vendors who made it all happen…
