Sometimes you can tell a wedding was a completely joyful day from the very first photo, and that’s definitely the case with Savannah and Kevin’s celebration. The couple’s brunch wedding (!!) began as a fun idea after reading an article on BuzzFeed. The more they talked about the details that could become a reality (serving their favorite breakfast foods was at the top of their list!), the more excited they became. I’m thrilled their brunch wedding became a reality!

Wedding planner Kate of Wild Sky Events was invaluable while planning Savannah and Kevin’s daytime soiree. The couple planned their destination wedding from afar and weren’t always able to make decisions in person, but Kate kept their aesthetic in mind always. Together, the group created a wedding at Star Hill Ranch that was filled with bright colors, vintage details, in season spring florals by Pollen Floral Art, and backyard games. Their event was laidback, family-focused, and so intentionally fun. Y’all are going to love the photos captured by Lisa Woods Photography (the portraits are my favorite)!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Kate, our wedding planner was our biggest help in preparing for our wedding and on our wedding day. Having never been intimately involved in the planning process of any wedding before, it was wonderful to have an advocate like Kate who knew the tasks, timeline, and a variety of vendors . She was especially valuable since we had a destination wedding and were not always able to meet vendors or tour venues in-person–Kate performed admirably as our eyes and ears to make sure all the pieces of our wedding reflected us as a couple and our vision for the wedding, even if it hadn’t been hand-picked by the bride & groom. She made sure every little detail of our wedding was covered!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

My husband & I wanted to be sure we found and planner and photographer who understood our priorities and clicked with us as a couple. We were looking for folks who were outgoing, creative, detail-oriented, relaxed, and were as excited for an outdoor brunch as we were!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

Funnily enough, our idea of a brunch wedding started as a joke after I’d read a BuzzFeed listical noting the advantages of brunch weddings. The only thing I told my fiancé was, “We could have a waffle wedding cake!!” and the list of joke-y perks grew from there (we could serve all our favorite breakfast foods! we could be day drinking!). Before we knew it, the joke idea took on a life of its own so much that we realized we wanted to make it a reality.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

Our favorite part of the day was the overall feeling of our wedding–everything went absolutely as well as we could have hoped for. Our main goal was to have the ceremony was short and sweet and the reception be long and fun–we absolutely achieved that. In addition, the rain in the forecast never came through, there was plenty of tasty food and booze for everyone, and everyone thought the venue was quaint and wonderful. To see our vision come together so nicely and knowing that everyone else was having just as much fun as we were meant that the worst part of the wedding was it being over!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

In the planning process, focus your time, energy, and money on the things that are important to you at your wedding–concentrate on all the details that are important to you and that make the wedding what you want it to be. These will be the things you notice most at your wedding and are likely to remember afterwards.
