We are always head over heels for colorful wedding designs, and this Charlotte wedding is what our color-loving dreams are made of! Emily and DJ created their perfect wedding day from the dreams Emily has had for their wedding her whole life. To make the day even sweeter, they also got married on both of her grandparents’ anniversaries- what a wonderful tradition to carry forward!
Emily chose a bold color scheme for her wedding with navy tones and pops of different pinks, oranges, and yellows. Every detail was executed so perfectly by both her and her wedding planner, Heidi. The coolest part? Emily designed ALL of the gorgeous paper goods since she’s a graphic designer! You absolutely do not want to miss all of the beauty captured by Casey Hendrickson Photography – including Emily’s stunning blush beaded ballgown!
What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?
Having over a year to plan the wedding was helpful in that we could take our time and break things up!
What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?
Our main goal was to make sure everyone present had a great time! We wanted good food and drinks, good music and a relaxed atmosphere! It was extremely important that we had a non-religious ceremony to make sure everyone felt comfortable and included in our marriage ceremony. We wanted to splurge on the photographer since after the day is done, you want good photos to remember the day. Looking back, I wish we would have also hired a videographer.
Tell us a little a bit about your wedding.
We knew we wanted to get married somewhere industrial. We’re definitely not the “southern rustic” type. We immediately fell in love with the venue when we saw it! We also loved that there was so much history—my grandmother’s family consisted of several mill workers so there were lots people who loved viewing the museum that was open during the cocktail hour.
We’re also not afraid of color! We knew we wanted to stay away from pastels and really make the color palette bright and cheerful. Overall, I wanted to keep the wedding simple and let the flowers and venue take center stage.
What were your favorite parts of the day?
One of my favorite parts of the day was saying my vows to DJ and seeing DJ toss the garter (in a Pokeball haha!)
DJ’s favorite parts of the day: seeing Emily walk down the aisle and dancing the night away with his new wife!
Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?
Know that things won’t go exactly as planned and don’t let it take away from your special day. Don’t sweat the small stuff—most of the small items you won’t see anyway! At the end of the day, as long as you’re married, that’s all that matters! Invest in a great photographer and videographer. Lastly, if your veil falls out just laugh and keep walking! ;)

The bright colors on the floral arrangements and bouquets are as bright as the smiles of the bride and groom, as well as the guests. A perfect contrast!
