What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My husband (Steve) made this very complicated Excel spreadsheet that basically tracked our entire wedding- guest list, vendor information, payments and due dates, shower gifts, seating and meal choices, etc. I joked that the spreadsheet had a mind of its own but it was a lifesaver and kept us on track throughout the whole planning process. Steve was also amazingly supportive and helpful the whole time, he even went to Priscilla of Boston and picked out my veil for me, so I’m one very lucky girl! There are so many challenges when you are planning an out-of-town wedding, but my mom was a huge help with our DIY projects in the weeks leading up to the wedding. In fact, both of our parents, aunts and uncles, and our wedding party really came through for us the entire weekend. They were such a huge help with all of the little details, we are so fortunate to have them all by our side!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

We put so much thought into choosing the right vendors, especially our photographer and DJ, so we read a ton of reviews online. Since we were planning from out-of-town though, the most important aspects to us were whether vendors were easy to get ahold of by phone or email and if their personalities worked with ours.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

We really wanted the wedding to be elegant and classic, but also a reflection of us and our families. The blush, ivory, and gold colors, as well as the vintage-inspired details really made everything feel so romantic. Between the family wedding photos, Florida Gator cake topper made by my Maid of Honor, the traditional Pittsburgh cookie table, and other little details, we were able to put our own stamp on the day.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

There are so many things that made our day special, it’s hard to narrow it down! We really appreciated that the coordinator at our reception venue let us see the ballroom before the guests arrived; it was great seeing everything come together. Both of us agree though that spending the day with so many of our friends and family who traveled from near and far to celebrate with us was the absolute icing on the cake after more than a year of wedding planning.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

So many people told me they were shocked at how relaxed both my husband and I were. On the wedding day, you have to forget about anything that might go wrong and just go with the flow. There is probably something that won’t go as planned- our day was no exception. For example, at our ceremony I tried unsuccessfully to put the ring on my husband’s sweaty, swollen finger and he forgot about our first kiss. We also botched the cake cutting… honestly, how hard is it to cut a piece of cake?! Those funny details are totally us though and we’ll always remember them. Just trust in your vendors to do their part, take a few extra breaths to take everything in, and enjoy being surrounded by so many loving friends and family.

Amazing! And, I LOVE her advice to other brides! Take a deep breath and enjoy it. Your wedding day is over before you know it so enjoy every second! And trust your vendors to capture it so you can relive your day in photos and video for years to come!

What are you doing to make sure you can relax and enjoy on your wedding day? Can’t wait to hear all about it!

Cheers, Samm
