Set in the Bluegrass State, this sweet wedding from Lizzie Loo Photography is full of timeless details. Kristen and Eric were legally wed over a year prior to their wedding, but Eric serves our country and spent quite a bit of time deployed, so their wedding dreams were put on hold for a bit later. It was all for the best though, because Kristen had plenty of time to plan her gorgeous wedding! With a classic color palette of navy, ivory and pink, and a focus on family and friends, this Southern soiree was truly a celebration of love!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

The internet was my biggest helper when planning my wedding. I did not have a wedding planner, so I looked at numerous wedding blogs, wedding magazines, Etsy, wedding photographer pictures, and anything else that I could think of to provide inspiration. I am a very detail oriented person and spent many hours researching every decision. (I could spend days just looking at fonts or paper types!) Exploring the internet helped me to feel like I was aware of all options before I made decisions.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

As mentioned above, I would literally spend hours researching all potential vendors located within two hours of my venue. Based on their websites, pricing, and examples of their work that I could see on the internet, I would schedule meetings with the top 3 – 5 vendors. After the face-to-face meetings, the choices were always obvious for me. I went with the vendors that just felt right – the vendors that seemed to understand my vision and who I knew I wanted to be surrounded by on my wedding day.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

When I first started to think about my wedding, I decided on the colors of navy, light pink and ivory. There was not much reasoning behind those colors, other than that I knew I wanted a traditional, timeless wedding (I did not want to look back at my wedding pictures in 10 years and wonder what I had been thinking). I also knew that I wanted the wedding to have a sweet, comfortable feeling about it. I quickly developed a vision in my head of my dream wedding. I knew I wanted the wedding to have personal, unique touches and searched for ideas that I could make mine. I made all decisions around the color scheme and the vision in my head.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

I have two favorites when I look back on the day. The first is the ceremony – this might be too general, but everything about it was exactly as I envisioned. Our ceremony was on a rooftop in downtown Louisville. The weather was perfect and there was an amazing blue sky background. The flowers were beautiful, the musicians were excellent (we hired a string quartet), and pastor did a great job. My second favorite thing about our wedding is the band that played at the reception. When we first started to plan the wedding, my dad (who was not involved with any other wedding details), said, “I have the perfect band for you.” I had never heard the band, but since my dad knows how to have a good time, I figured they would be great. They were wonderful and set the exact family friendly party atmosphere that we wanted to have at the reception. The dance floor was packed the entire night. I knew that I wanted to have a reception where the guests had to be kicked out at the end of the night by the venue because no one wanted to leave. The band made sure this happened. In fact, everyone was chanting for “one more song” when the reception was over.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Enjoy every minute of planning your wedding. It is such a special day that you will always remember. Do your homework and stay organized throughout the planning process so that you can enjoy the week of the wedding without last minute stresses. I asked for all RSVP’s to be returned three weeks before the wedding to allow plenty of time to allow up with guests who did not respond and to make the seating chart, print menus, etc. I was able to enjoy the week of the wedding and spending time with family and friends who were in town for the big day.

I love that Kristen and Eric were able to renew their vows and also have their ultimate fairytale wedding. Would you have a renew or re-do? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

XOXO,
Carlee
