Full of handmade aviary details (over 500!) and bright pops of pinks and purples, this eclectic DIY wedding from Korie Lynn Photography is so full of joy! Also full of joy? The radiant bride, Amber! From her stunning dress and ethereal veil to her ballet-inspired shoes, the styling from this Southern sweetheart is absolutely flawless (true story: there is a photograph of the newly married Mrs. Bedoya that literally took my breath away!). Here she is to give us her planning insight:

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

My mom was indispensable. The vision for the wedding was mine, but I would never have been able to execute it if not for her. Both she and my dad did so much work to make the wedding look as beautiful as it did – from making the burlap gift bags to the programs, the mash up sign to the lace in the gazebo, and the birds! All 500 of them! I would never have been able to sew them all myself! On the day of, she brought a team of her friends to help out, and took charge of setting up and taking down all the decorations save the linens and the flower arrangements. I didn’t have to worry about a thing.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

I really wanted to work with people who were passionate about what they did. I’d never planned a wedding before, so I really had to go with my gut instinct in several instances. I figured that if the vendors I picked were passionate and excited about their work, and as long as their work aligned with my overall vision for the wedding, they would be less likely to disappoint.

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

For me, it started with birds. I love the symbolism attached to birds and to flight, and I love how bird names can be both earthy and whimsical at the same time: swallow, finch, thrush….But the birds were only the beginning. Everything else came after the Dress. I ended up with something completely different than I intended. It was a sample dress on sale at a boutique that would have otherwise been out of my price-range. We met, we fell in love…and then I bought it before anyone else could! After I purchased that dress, the wedding seemed to plan itself. It was as if it embodied all the ideas that had been swimming around in my head and gave them a place to land; it was the one piece of the puzzle that made everything else make sense.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

The photobooth was a blast and probably our best investment. It kept everyone entertained while we waited for the officiant to show up…an hour and a half after the wedding was supposed to start.

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Surround yourself with people who you can trust to give you pep talks, hugs, and help! And remember to enjoy yourself. My favorite moment of the entire wedding was actually the night before, when both of our families, the bridal party, and some close friends had gathered at my parents’ house for dinner and painting (yes, painting). Everyone was relaxed, happy, and filled with anticipation and I knew in my core that I had made the right choice. Just having that moment made the wedding day more special. Definitely keep an eye out for moments like that!

Great advice, Amber! Definitely take time to enjoy yourself and memorize these special moments. One super special moment from Amber and Jorge’s wedding was their choreographed first dance full of dips and twirls. My husband and I just “winged it” with our first dance and looking back I kind of wish that we had made time to take dance lessons. I think that would have been a wonderful experience and given us some much needed quality time during the crazy period of wedding planning. How about you? Are you planning to take formal dance lessons or perform a choreographed first dance or are you, like me, going to wing it? I’d love to hear in the comments below!

XOXO,
Carlee
