Happy Wednesday everyone! Today’s wedding comes to us from Andi Grant Photography, and it’s a fun, eclectic wedding completely inspired by “Alice In Wonderland”! Forget the “princess” fairytales, this bride Lindsey’s dream was to be an “Alice” bride!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

Every girl wants a fairytale wedding, but I never gravitated much toward princess-type fairytales. I always loved whimsy and the idea of magical lands. When we toured the Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo, NC there was an enormous statue of Queen Elizabeth, and I exclaimed “Look! It’s the Queen of Hearts!” (You can see how my mind tends towards fantasy) and that was it! We knew we wanted a classic Alice in Wonderland inspired wedding. It had special meaning for me because I was so in love with the story and various movie versions as a child. I couldn’t wait to be an Alice bride! Our ceremony was in those very gardens.

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Our wedding designer, Wes Stetson, of  Holiday House Weddings was incredible! He, my mother, my fiance (now hubby!) and I worked together collaboratively at first.  We had already settled on a theme and begun collecting pieces. Then Wes took the reins and…Voila! David Tutera, eat your heart out! He brought our vision to life and then some!

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

With so many details, it just isn’t fair to make me choose a favorite! But there was something very unique about our wedding that I will never forget! After the ceremony, Robert and I were escorted to a clearing in the garden where Wes had secretly staged several Wonderland vignettes for an editorial style photo shoot! It allowed us to capture the beauty of the day in a very fun and special way. My other favorite element was that I carried a white rabbit down the aisle instead of a bouquet. I adopted him from an animal shelter and now he is a wonderful pet. His name is Hatter. We love him and so does our dog, Boogie.

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

I knew it would be imperative that whomever we worked with “caught our vision” so to speak. Wes was as passionate about the theme as we were. He even claims to have been “down the rabbit hole” for weeks while brainstorming and planning!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

Don’t be shy about expressing yourself on your day. So many brides play it safe for fear of not liking something in pictures years down the road. If you are inspired by something, go for it! Be true to yourselves as a couple and express yourselves! More than anything, your pictures will reflect the joy, love, and fun of the day. So, be sure to plan a day that maximizes your fun! You won’t regret it. Besides, life’s too short to be subtle.

Yes yes YES! Love her advice! A big thank you to Andi Grant Photography for sharing this wedding with us, and of course thanks to Lindsey for sharing her insight too!

What do you all think of the whimsical “Alice In Wonderland” theme? I love all the teacups that were used and that they really embraced the theme… plus that it was totally THEM! Would you do a theme or something like this for your own wedding?
