“You get what you pay for.” It such a commonly used saying, but sometimes people totally ignore because let’s face it- we all want a deal. In the wedding industry, “you get what you pay for” is absolutely positively true in every aspect. It should be everyone’s mantra when planning a wedding. Because in the end, it’s not about the nickels and dimes that you spent for your wedding, it’s the experience that you and your guests had.

Quality is what weighs heaviest on the “you get what you pay for” saying. Because wedding vendors are providing a service. For the majority of professionals, the service they are providing you is what pays for them to live. It’s their business, their career, and their livelihood- not some hobby or thing they’re doing just for fun. So their prices are what their prices are because that’s what they need to live. (Yes, some vendors do get high and might sometimes overcharge for things, but that’s a whole different topic.)

A good example to think of is a restaurant. You walk in, and you’re handed a menu, with the prices listed on them and a description of the food. That price is what the restaurant wants to charge for that meal- the steak could be special meat, the vegetables organic, etc- because you’re also paying for the quality of the food. You don’t ask to remove the vegetables in order to get the price of the meal down, or try to talk the server down on the price by $5. The price is what it is. And then when you’re done, you receive the check with the tax added, and you add a tip onto the bill. That tip amount depends on the service that you received, right? Well, it’s the same with wedding vendors because they’re providing a service and/or product to you.

So basically, everything comes down to quality with your wedding vendors. The quality of flowers received, the quality of materials used or how things are taken care of, and ultimately the quality of service. A chivari chair that is $10 is most likely going to be of better quality than the $8 chivari chair (and trust me- this is SO true). Hey, if you want to go the cheapest route with everything, I understand- it’s your wedding and your money. But don’t be upset when your DJ shows up late, your chivari chairs are scratched and falling part, and your centerpieces have 2 flowers and are filled with “filler”. With your wedding, you get what you pay for!

How about the brides complaining that their event didn’t look good whereas they didn’t want to pay a wedding designer to actually know how to mix and match colors, styles, fabrics, for a polysensorial smooth experience? They often think that a designer is superfluous but they need a wedding planner to execute it. And I say to them: to execute WHAT exactly? A hodge podge? If it has to look cheap and trashy don’t hire a wedding planner either cuz nobody will notice if the cake makes it there on time ;)
